Mission Destin at Village Baptist Church is an opportunity for all students who completed fifth through 12th grades, college students, and young adults to serve the community — those who call Destin home as well as those from around the world here on vacation.
Friends from Temple Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Arkansas, will partner with Village to share Jesus and his love with those they encounter.
Mission Destin is held from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 22-27, with breaks held throughout the day for food and fun. In the mornings, the group serves at Destin Elementary and Destin Middle Schools.
“We serve the schools in whatever capacity they need us to,” said Village Student Pastor Wade Smith. “We clean their facilities both inside and out. We build desks. We distribute textbooks to the classrooms. We even help teachers get their classrooms ready. We strive to be the hands and feet of Jesus.”
Mission Destin does outreach in the afternoons, and at night they enjoy a meal together, play games and join as one church in worship. Outreach-wise, the group goes out in the community to talk and help people they see.
“We try to meet people right where they are and in that moment share the good news of Jesus with them,” Smith said. “No matter if that is in the neighborhood next to our church or on the beach. It is our goal to love and share Jesus with everyone and serve our community well.”
Cost is $30 and includes lunch and dinner daily and T-shirt or tank top. Register by July 18 at villagebaptist.wufoo.com/forms/r5u8tdc002jle7/.
