12:00 p.m. update:

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who died in an apparent drowning Wednesday night as 20-year-old Pethiley Deusete Lopez Maximo of Destin.

Maximo's cause of death has not been determined, but officials believe it was a drowning. His death is still under active investigation.

11 a.m. update:

The body of a Destin man was located Thursday morning by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team in waters off the west side of the Destin Bridge, not far from where he was last seen Wednesday evening.

The 20-year-old Brazilian, who was unable to swim, was apparently last seen by friends around the 8 p.m. time frame. His personal property was still on the beach.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the scene to assist Eglin Range Patrol around 1:30 a.m. this morning and the Destin Coast Guard also joined in the search.

DESTIN — The Coast Guard is searching for a man last seen near the Destin Bridge on Wednesday.

According to a press release from the Coast Guard, Coast Guard Sector Mobile, watchstanders received a report from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office about a 20-year-old Brazilian man wearing dark blue shorts last seen walking in waist-high water on the west side of the Destin Bridge at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office says the man disappeared after a Fourth of July beach party and can't swim. He was reported missing by his friends.

The Coast Guard Station Destin 24-foot special purpose craft crew and the Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew are involved in the search.
