DESTIN — A Fort Walton Beach man was arrested on drug and firearm charges after drug equipment fell out of his pocket in front of a lawman.
A deputy was assisting with a call at a Harbor Boulevard business on July 1 when he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the man’s vehicle, according to his Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. The deputy asked the man to step out of the car, and when he did, a black bag containing a scale and large amounts of small, clear plastic bags fell out of his lap.
After being read his Miranda rights, the man declined to answer questions but did say that anything deputies found in the car was his. After searching the car, deputies found a gun reported stolen out of Panama City and 2 grams of marijuana. A search revealed cocaine in the man’s pocket and in his wallet.
The 24-year-old was arrested and charged with grand theft of a firearm, cocaine possession marijuana possession and drug equipment possession.
