DESTIN — An estimated 2,500 gallons of reclaimed water spilled into a ditch after a water main was punctured during construction of the U.S. Highway 98 widening project.
Destin Water Users notified the Florida Department of Environmental Protection about the spill at 3 p.m. Monday just west of the bank at 34885 U.S. Highway 98 E. and east of Kelly Plantation Drive, according to a press release from DWU. DWU crews arrived at the site and shut down the main by about 3:30 p.m.
The reclaimed water did not enter any water bodies or stormwater systems, the press release said. DWU crews returned to the site Tuesday morning to make repairs and return the main to service.
