The Destin Garden Club will meet at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 11 at the Destin Library, 150 Sibert Ave. Rosemarie Voelker and Lee Vanderpol will share their Bonsai talents and knowledge with members and guests. The art of Bonsai originated in China and is also a part of Japanese art. Bonsai uses container grown trees and shrubs in a miniature format.

Voelker, a trustee of the Bonsai Societies of Florida, will discuss the history of Bonsai trees and explain how to create and maintain these beautiful plants. She will bring some of her Bonsai plants to inspire the group. Vanderpol, Okaloosa County Master Gardener and Bonsai Societies of Florida trustee for north Florida, will give a demonstration on the beginning basics of how to create a Bonsai.

The Destin Garden Club meets the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings are free and open to the public. The Club is dedicated to enriching our membership and public with gardening awareness and education. For those who wish to join the club, membership is available for $35 a year.

In addition to their monthly meetings, the club members also meet on the third Tuesday of each month to plant and maintain much of the Destin Library landscape.

For library patrons who wish to learn more about the plants on the Destin Library grounds, the club has created a book that can be used to tour the grounds.
