It's always good to check in with our readers to see how we're doing and what we could be doing better.

We had an opportunity to do this last week when The Log's fishing expert Tina Harbuck and I walked the docks of the Destin harbor to talk to locals and tourists about The Log and the Destin community.

John Stephens III with Luther's Pontoon reads The Log online and likes seeing what's going on with the local schools.

Although he likes the coverage, he would like to see more.

"I would like to see more school activities in there. That's what I'm about, education stuff," Stephens said. "Talk about the kids."

Moving forward, we'll try to get some more stories about the students and faculty at Destin Elementary and Destin Middle schools.

Tommy Carter, captain of the charter boat Blue Runner II, said they currently subscribe to the Northwest Florida Daily News, but said they would like to start getting The Log to have more of the Destin focus.

"I think you're doing a good job," Carter said. "Tina is doing great (covering the fishing fleet) and covering the local sports. Local interest stuff, that's why we'd want to take it."

Capt. Phillip Blackburn of the charter boat Backdown 2 said he reads The Log regularly. When asked, he said he didn't have any suggestions that would make The Log better.

"I look at all the fishing pictures that all y'all do up and down the docks," Blackburn said. "I like all the stories y'all do on the docks and I follow the sports too a lot, because I have children in high school and middle school.

"I think y'all are doing a superb job," he added.

I definitely appreciated hearing that, but I'm sure there are some readers who do have suggestions on things we can improve. And I want to hear from you.

My contact information is below. If you would like to talk about how The Log or The Walton Sun are doing, please reach out to me. If you have story ideas for us, I would love to hear them.

This isn't going to be the last time we host one of these community meet-ups where we can get together to talk about the papers. Tina and I are going to be judges at the Destin Fishing Rodeo from 2-7 p.m. Oct. 7. If you would like to talk about The Log, The Sun and how we're doing or what we could do better, please stop by. We would love to talk to you.

And if your business or organization would like to host one of these meet-up events, please reach out to me.
