DESTIN — Before the scales opened Monday morning, boats were in line and waiting to weigh in the first fish of the 70th annual Destin Fishing Rodeo.

First to hit the scales was a 6-pound redfish caught by 11-year-old Connor Yeric of Kentucky. For his efforts he was awarded a free rod and reel, a certificate and an engraved Tervis tumbler. He was fishing with Capt. Josh Calhoon on the Destin Inshore Guide.

The Destin Fishing Rodeo runs through Oct. 31 with scales open on the docks behind AJ's Seafood and Oyster Bar every day from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
