Shana Jarrett may have 82,000 Instagram followers, but the only people she cared about on a recent Thursday afternoon were the five sitting across from her at the outdoor bar of Fubar Pizza Bar.
“This place is like my baby,” she said of the newly opened pizza bar. “I worked at Helen Back for two years, and (with Fubar) I designed the menus, and I put all the signature drinks on there. I created them and named them.”
She said her favorite creation is one she dubbed the Crab Island Water.
“It has coconut rum, blue curacao, pineapple juice and a splash of cranberry juice,” she said. “You don’t taste the alcohol at all, and it’s layered. It’s really pretty because it’s blue on the bottom, orange in the middle and red on the top. It looks like a sunset on Crab Island.”
Her bar regulars back her up, one man even saying he tried his hand at making the drink and captured the ever-illusive layered effect on camera before the colors mixed and the moment was lost.
“You have to catch it quick, otherwise the layers blend,” Jarrett explained.
With that in mind, Jarrett chose to feature another of her popular cocktails, the Taste of Paradise, as her signature sip. Another fruity cocktail, Taste of Paradise features four rums — coconut, pineapple, mango and banana — and is topped with three juices, orange, pineapple and cranberry.
“It has the amount of alcohol as a Long Island, but you don’t taste it,” she said.
Jarrett said the reason she loves bartending so much is the friendships she has made with customers.
“I love the people here, everyone has become friends and family. (Being at the bar) it’s like catching up with family members,” she said. “I love that I get to be myself and be silly and joke with the people, and they love it and come back.”
Back to the social media phenomenon, Jarrett juggles bartending and mothering two kids with her prolific modeling career. She said even though she loves both of her jobs, her moments spent at home are where she loves to be most.
“I travel around the U.S. doing photo shoots … I get to meet a bunch of influential people and learn a lot from them. It’s a lot of fun,” she said. “But being home with my two kids and my dog in my own bed, that’s the best! Home is where the heart is for sure.”
