UPDATE: Eglin's 'suspicious package' wasn't a bomb, evacuated buildings reopened
EGLIN AFB – Several buildings were evacuated after a suspicion package was found at the base’s post office Thursday morning.
The Eglin Fire Department, Bioenvironmental and EOD personnel were called to the scene to investigate, according to an Eglin news release. Responders determined the package wasn’t an explosive, and it was removed about 11 a.m. No injuries were reported.
Base officials evacuated people from the post office and several surrounding buildings as a precaution, the release said. As of 5:40 p.m., the investigation was closed, the offices reopened and normal business operations resumed.
Eglin officials would not say why the package was considered suspicious, or where it came from.
