Golf carts on City Council docket

The golf cart issue is puttering before the City Council again.

Monday’s meeting will feature a report and recommendations from Tim Krueger, the Public Works and Safety Committee Chairman.

City staff told the council recently that a request from some east Destin residents to allow golf cars on parts of the Scenic Hwy. 98 sidewalk wouldn’t fly because it’s not acceptable under Florida law.

Also on the agenda is a preliminary engineering study of the new roadway corridor from Azalea Drive to Legion Drive, as well as an update on the dune restoration project from Jetty East to Destin Pointe.

Why are you even discussing golf carts on scenic hwy 98 ? They have been running up and down the street, hwy 98, in the crystal beach area day and night for 2 years now. Also these little 3 wheel plastic carts. I thought they were legal on the streets/hwy of Destin.

Why isn’t the sheriff’s Office enforcing the law against golf carts on the side walks and roads? Is this the same “hands off” approach the sheriff has taken to illegal immigrants?

Please get all golf Carts off our sidewalks and the illegal ones off our streets.

Golf carts belong on a Golf course. Someone will be injured or killed soon, they are irresistible to some kids. They slow everyone down. Expanding their use is idiotic. Can't you walk to the beach you lazy people?

Why would you want golf carts driving on the side walk? This is the most idiotic idea ever. Side walks are intended to be used for pedestrian traffic, not golf carts. Golf carts should be licensed and used on the designated roads.
