DOWN ON THE DOCKS: Look, but don't taste (PHOTOS)
A hungry pelican eyes a catch from the Sea Venture. Their six-hour trip brought in a haul of white snapper.
Meanwhile, Destinite Scotty Lisenbe captured this photo of a pelican landing on someone’s back: “Love going to the docks… You never know what you will see...,” he told The Log on our Facebook page. “The day I shot this picture, there must have been 30 pelicans at this one cleaning station. The men were shooing them away, but also throwing fish in the water...”
Deb Edwards of the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge took the opportunity to remind folks that “these birds are federally protected and contact with them is both illegal and irresponsible. Habituating them to people will ultimately end in the bird's demise. It is also illegal to intentionally feed them or to allow them access to food sources they did not naturally acquire themselves.”
