Man's shoelace caught on gas pedal, causes serious accident
GULF BREEZE — A 57-year-old man was charged with careless driving Thursday after causing a two-car accident, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Pensacola resident Richard Miller was driving east on U.S. Highway 98 around 9:30 a.m. when his shoelace became entangled on the gas pedal and he was unable to stop.
Miller, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet, hit the back of a 1974 MG GT driven by 77-year-old Ricahrd Decrevel that was stopped at the red light near the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and County Road 191C.
Miller's vehicle hit the Gulf Breeze man's vehicle with such force it caused it to spin around and stopped facing west.
Miller suffered minor injuries and Decrevel suffered serious injuries. Both men were taken to Baptist Hospital in Gulf Breeze.
The accident caused one lane of eastbound traffic on U.S. Highway 98 to close for an hour.
Miller's vehicle sustained around $2,000 in damages. Decrevel's vehicle sustained around $4,000 in damages.
