LETTER: Baby J's employees: Putting us out of work is 'unconscionable'

This is an open letter to the Destin City Council and all residents of Destin from the employees of Baby J’s.

We would like everyone to know that we love working at Baby J’s — the food is great, the views are awesome and the owners are wonderful people.

To put us out of work at the end of season with unemployment hovering around 10 percent is unconscionable.

It is so nice to work at a place that pays well and you are constantly complimented on your product.

As far as the code violations go surely something can be worked out. It seems pretty nitpicky to us to say we are not a boat, we are now a structure. Don’t you have anything better to spend your time on?

______

Destin City Council members think we need another exit — we are floating in the harbor on an open air boat. I’d like to think that in the unlikely case of a fire spreading so quickly at the front of the boat that we could not safely remove the customers, they would jump in the water.

Putting over thirty people out of work this late in the season cannot happen. Most of us live in Destin. We pay rent and mortgages. We spend our money shopping and going out to dinner, etc., etc. The ripple effect of our being shut down would hurt Destin’s economy.

Please reconsider this harsh and unnecessary action. Thank You.
