COLUMN: Seatbelt law infringes on my right to life
I was ticketed Thursday Sept. 2 for not wearing my seatbelt.
This goes against my right to life liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I am taking this to court and could use the support of the community. I am sure I will win, but if the judge rules against me then I will be taking this to the Supreme Court in Tallahassee.
It is time we took a stand for our rights, people.
They tell us that this seatbelt law is safer for us, but in reality it is just as likely to cause the same amount of harm or even more.
When any form of government goes against my right to life they infringe upon my rights.
Every human being has the inherent right to life. This right shall be protected by law. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his life. When a state or government thinks they can better our lives by creating laws that are supposed to protect us, that is a good thing. But when they enforce a law that prohibits me from taking my own precautions to protect my own life as an indvidual they are going against The Declaration of Independence, which states that we have the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The 14th amendment states “no state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
By telling me that I have to wear a seatbelt they are depriving me of life.
I know this will be hard to fight in court, but I'm pretty sure the judge will do the right thing and rule on my behalf.
The officer who wrote me the ticket told me that I don't have the right to choose.
Well, all I have to say to him is when you wear your badge like a crown, I will never back down. I am a person just like you and have the same rights as you.
