Woman reports being sexually assaulted at Fort Walton Beach park
FORT WALTON BEACH — An 18-year-old woman reported that she was sexually assaulted over the weekend.
The woman called Fort Walton Beach police Sunday to report that she was at a neighborhood park near the intersection of Jet Drive and Holmes Boulevard alone late Saturday when the attack occurred.
She told police “she was grabbed from behind, pulled into the bushes, and physically overpowered by a man,” according to a Police Department news release.
According to an incident report, the woman told an investigator she went to the park to “listen to music and swing on the swings” as she had done in the past with a friend who had since moved away.
She said she was at the park for between two and three hours and was grabbed as she was leaving.
The report said the victim didn’t have many details about the attack. The news release said “only a vague description of the assailant is available.”
The attacker was described as heavyset, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and wearing a dark baggy T-shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes. The woman told officers the man was “extremely strong.”
The victim did not incur any serious physical injuries, the news release said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Police Department at 833-9546 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at (850) 863-TIPS (863-8477).
