Deputies take down former pro football player
DESTIN -- A 42-year-old former college and pro football player was taken to the ground June 15 by a can of pepper spray to the face and charged with assault on a law enforcement officer.
The man, described as "extremely intoxicated", had been thrown out of KJ's at 306 Harbor Blvd. and was staggering around and threatening two Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputies.
He would point to his arms, saying that they didn't want any of "this" and that they couldn't handle it, according to his arrest report.
When a deputy asked him where he lived, he said the deputy "couldn't whoop his (expletive)" without a stick and a flashlight. He then said, "I'm going to whoop your (triple expletive)." He then charged at the deputy.
The deputy deployed his pepper spray, which immediately stopped the man's advance. He laid down on the ground and was taken into custody.
The man is described as being 6 feet tall and weighing 285 pounds.
