CRESTVIEW - Police arrested a 28-year-old man accused of trying to rob an Exxon station Tuesday morning.

James Clifford Roberts Jr., of the 500 block of East Brock Avenue, was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a Crestview Police news release.

Roberts entered the gas station at 775 S. Main Street about 6:10 a.m. Tuesday and attempted to rob the cashier with a knife, but left empty-handed after the cashier was unable to open the register, police said. Police released store surveillance photos and descriptions of Roberts and a woman who was with him.

Police identified the woman but no longer consider her a person of interest, the release said.

Roberts was being held at the jail on $5,000 bond Wednesday night.
