Blankets of love: Destin resident knits for good cause (with photo)
With April being National Child Abuse Prevention Month, locals are doing their part to support victims of child abuse and neglect.
Sherry Reilly, a resident at the Destin Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, donates her talent for knitting to make large blankets for Children in Crisis, an organization that “provides homes and hope” to children in our community that have been victimized by abandonment, abuse or neglect.
Mary Spears, cosmetologist for the center and a volunteer for Children in Crisis, saw a use for Reilly’s flair with the knitting needle.
“I got a bunch of yarn, and she got started right away,” Spears told The Log.
Reilly spends ample time on her creations.
“It takes two months to make a blanket,” Reilly said. “I’ve been making blankets since the ’70s.”
Like so many other individuals that give to Children in Crisis, Reilly and Spears make a difference in the lives of these children in their own special way.
“It’s something we can do for them.”
