Man busted for smoking pot in room at Holiday Inn

A 24-year-old man was arrested after a deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from a room at the Holiday Inn.

The deputy responded to a narcotics complaint about 10 p.m. Aug. 10, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. A 24-year-old Bessemer, Ala., man answered the door, and the deputy smelled burnt marijuana on him.

The deputy asked where the marijuana was, and a woman took a Heinz baby jar out of her pocket and handed it over, according to the report. The man admitted the jar was his and said he gave it to the woman when he opened the door.

He was charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and is due in court Aug. 31.

Couple caught having sex in park

A 31-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were arrested Aug. 7 on charges of lewd and lascivious behavior and trespassing. The couple had the same last name.

A deputy was patrolling the area of Calhoun Avenue at Clement E. Taylor Park, which closes at dusk.

As the deputy was driving around the park he shined his light on a covered spotlight and saw the woman lying face down on the picnic table, partially clothed with her top on and no pants, according to her Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office arrest report. The man was moving up and down on top of the woman, the report said.

According to the report, the couple continued to "engage in sexual intercourse" until the deputy left his patrol car and demanded the couple stop and put their clothes back on.

While being interviewed, the couple laughed and could not offer a "reasonable explanation as to why they would be legitimately in the park."

A cold bottle of Corona beer was on the bench of the table where the couple was having intercourse, the report said.

Girl attempts to steal 'Miss Me' jeans

A 16-year-old girl was arrested Aug. 2 on charges of retail theft.

According to an Okaloosa County notice to appear, the girl was in Francesca's Collections when she attempted to steal "Miss Me" jeans.

The pants were valued at $108.

Man dines and ditches at Waffle House

A 21-year-old man was arrested July 17 on charges of fraud.

The man was in Waffle House on Regions Way and had order and consumed a meal valued at $10.64.

According to an Okaloosa County Sheriff's report, the man gave the cashier a credit card that did not have his name on it.

When the employee told the man he would have to confiscate the card the man left the restaurant without paying for his food.
