TRACY LAWRENCE

Country star has been around The Block: Tracy Lawrence to play Saturday in FWB

Tracy Lawrence has been traveling to Florida for almost 20 years to play for audiences of all sizes. On Saturday night, Destin area residents will have the opportunity to see a country favorite up close and personal.

With over 22 top ten hits and 18 No. 1 hits in his career, Lawrence has withstood the test of time in the country music industry. He has released 11 studio albums and four compilation albums.

Saturday evening’s show will feature recent chart toppers such as 2006’s “Find Out Who Your Friends Are,” as well as classics from the 90s such as “Time Marches On.”

“We’re going to play the variety that the fans are looking for,” said Lawrence. “We’ll have a song or so from the new album, but it’s going to be the hits. We’re also going to throw in two or three new songs.”

Lawrence’s latest album, The Rock, was released in June 2009, and revealed a very specific side of Lawrence and a major influence in his life. The album comprised of only Christian music and the single “Up to Him” even reached No. 1 on the gospel charts.

“[The album] was unique for me, but it was the perfect time,” said Lawrence. “It’s a progressive Christian country album and it got so many great reviews. My fan base loved it. I am very proud of it.”

Though country is obviously his first love, and the Christian and gospel genres play heavily as influences, Lawrence appreciates all kinds of music and is able to draw inspiration from acts that his biggest fans probably don’t even expect.

“Haggard and Strait have always been very influential for me,” said Lawrence. “But my iPod has every kind of music you could imagine on it. I really like what bands like Vertical Horizon and Train are doing.”

He is currently working on his latest record deal and trying to get back in the studio.

“I’ve got about 30 songs written and ready to go,” he said.

“I love playing in Florida,” said Lawrence. “They just show so much love every time I’m there.”
