Firefighters rescue kitten from bug sprayer
Firefighters in South Walton County rescued a kitten Thursday, but it wasn’t stuck in a tree.
It was stuck in a garden bug sprayer.
“A woman called us and said the cat was stuck in something and she was
bringing it in,” said South Walton Fire District Deputy Chief Sean
Hughes.
The kitten didn’t seem to be in distress, Hughes said, but it was mewing a little.
Much like a child might put their head through bars on a railing and
not be able to pull it back out, the kitten couldn’t back out of the
neck of the sprayer.
It took about 10 minutes Thursday morning for the firefighters to cut the sprayer apart and rescue the tiny orange kitten.
The woman who brought the kitten to the fire station took him home with her to care for him.
“I’m no animal psychologist,” Hughes joked, “but he seemed happy to be out.”
The South Walton Fire District uses the motto, “prompt, competent, caring response in time of need.”
“We’re here to help everybody,” Hughes said, “even kittens.”
