This week in Destin history: Threatening notes sent to The Log, chamber, post office

35 years ago — 1979

•The Destin Chamber of Commerce reported winter tourism had increased 35 percent over the previous year. Nearly 400 couples had registered at the chamber, with 65 percent from Canada and $35 percent from the northern U.S.

•Threatening notes signed “The Destin Dopers Association” were left at The Destin Log, the Destin Chamber and the Destin Post Office.

•The Destin Coast Guard station welcomed its first women “Coasties,” two seamen apprentices.
