FISH FLASH: Angling heats up after slow winter (CATCH-OF-THE-DAY PHOTOS)

Tuesday afternoon, the party boat Swoop II came in with a pile of mingo, white snapper, triggerfish, amberine and lane snapper.
The 37 customers aboard the Swoop II, which was fishing about 20 miles out, pulled in the catch on a six-hour trip.
Tuesday’s catch was the most action that folks have seen on the docks in weeks. And the fishing may be heating up with the weather.
Not long after the Swoop swooped down, the One of a Kind with Capt. Casey Godwin backed in with a tub filled with amberjack.
Capt. Godwin said they were fishing about 16 to 18 miles offshore.
“Fishing is awesome right now,” Godwin said. “It didn’t take us no time to get our limit.”
In addition to the amberjack, Godwin said they threw back a bunch of red snapper and grouper.
“The grouper are coming way off the bottom to get the bait,” he said. “When you’re fishing in a 150-foot of water and they’re coming up 50 to 60 feet in the water column … they’re starving.”
