'Wheel of Fortune' lands on Sandestin (update)
SANDESTIN - Wheel of Fortune prize winners have jumped up and down on the small screen after hearing they're going to Rome, London and Egypt. Now one of the famed destination spots on the big wheel will be Sandestin.
"This is the second time in three months we have been on ‘Wheel' and we are hoping for another spot later in the spring," said Mike Stenson, Business Development Manager for the Northwest Florida Regional Airport.
The Northwest Florida Regional Airport is the first airport to be mentioned on Wheel of Fortune, Stenson said. All the other airfare providers have been airlines.
The airport, along with Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, has teamed up for the prize package - an all-expense paid trip to see the sugar white sands and emerald green waters of Northwest Florida. The prize package will provide airfare, accommodations, fishing, golf and a spa visit.
Laurie Hobbs, public relations director for Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, said an appearance on Wheel of Fortune was a great way to showcase the area on a national scale.
"We would do it again," Hobbs said of the experience.
"We're very appreciative for this type of partnership the airport provided."
The potential prize winner will have to land on the predetermined space on the wheel, guess a letter correctly and solve that round's puzzle before being awarded the trip to Sandestin.
The first time Northwest Florida was featured on Wheel of Fortune the airport had partnered with Breakers on Okaloosa Island. No contestant won that prize.
"I know the results of this episode," Stenson teased, "but I'm not going to tell you."
The upcoming episode that will feature Sandestin as a prize destination will air Friday at 6:30 p.m. on Fox 10.
