A man was taken to the hospital Monday after an apparent 15-foot fall while working on the roof of the new Margaritaville Monday at Destin harbor.

The call came in at 10:19 a.m., and firefighters rushed to the scene. The 32-year-old male had lost consciousness but was becoming alert as they transported him to the hospital.

“There was an apparent head injury, open bleeding and he was complaining of back pain,” according to Battalion Chief Bronson Coleman from the Destin Fire Control District.

Initially the man was set to go to the Fort Walton Beach hospital, but the determination was later made to transport him to Pensacola.

Meghan Davis Hufty, who works for the general contractor overseeing the job, said the worker is alert and recovering.

“Dented skull, seven broken ribs, no brain damage and he is expected to recover! Thank God,” she posted on The Log’s Facebook page.
