It is summer once again and my visitors come to lie on the beach. Once again they are harassed by the Beach Chair Rental Mafia.

The Beach Chair people put their chairs up at 7 a.m. along the water on the high tide line, which is public property, then threaten to call the police if a visitor puts a chair in front of them. They share their money with the property owners behind them, so all they have to do is move their rental chairs back 10 feet. Okaloosa County beach owners have ropes up to stop people from sitting on their 50 feet of beach.

Visitors, if no one is in a rental chair you have a right to put your chair directly in front of it. Actually you have a right even if someone is in it. They will threaten to call the police. Let them! You will be in the right, since it is PUBLIC PROPERTY, not the Beach Chair Rental Mafia’s. Most of the renters are so young they don't own land that pays Okaloosa County taxes.

Okaloosa County managers, do something about this. Walton County last year at least made the homeowners take down those ugly poles and ropes. It is time to follow suit.
