Overheard on The Web

Here is what some people are saying online about stories in the Destin Log.

Woman hit by falling bullet at Destin fireworks show — By: gibren — June 7
Pretty sad when you can’t even enjoy a Fourth of July fireworks show without being hit by a stray bullet. Bet she won’t be coming back to Destin to visit.

It had to be a drunk person to think it’s okay to shoot a gun in the air without thinking it would come back down and possibly “kill” someone! I hope they catch this idiot and charge him for more than just culpable negligence — how about attempted manslaughter? Glad to hear that the young lady is going to be OK. Please continue to keep us updated on her condition and let her know she’s being thought of!

What kind of idiot would fire a gun up into the air on a night like the 4th of July when there are thousands of people in one spot. What is this world coming to when you don’t even feel safe taking your family and kids to watch fireworks! This is absurd. I hope someone comes forward and admits this stupid act of ignorance. I am so glad this woman was OK, it really could have had a tragic ending. God bless her and her family and every one else that can behave like decent human beings at such an event. I am so thankful my daughter and family and friends were not injured. To think I felt so safe that night when in reality we weren’t. Stupid people should not breathe.

I saw her right after she got hit. EMS quickly came and got her out. I didn’t hear a gunshot specifically, but the boat horns and fireworks probably blocked it out.

Lots of posts on the original “woman struck by bullet” ... The Mythbusters’ test of a bullet fired up was brought into the picture. I wonder if the spent round was a casing or a bullet. I also wonder if some idiot was trying to recreate “the bullet fired into water” test that they did. I too am glad that the woman is OK and agree that the idiot that fired the weapon should have the book thrown at them.

Just a shame it happened, whether in Destin, FWB, or anywhere. The right to bear arms doesn’t take into consideration alcohol, a holiday, and idiots.

Welcome to the South, check brains at the border

Note to self: Stay away from the Emerald Grande and the immediate area around it. Really bad stuff happens there.

Golf carts on the highway — By: observer — July 3
Golf carts belong on a golf course. Someone will be injured or killed soon as they are irresistible to some kids. They slow everyone down. Expanding their use is idiotic. Can’t you walk to the beach you lazy people?

By: Cynthia — Juy 3
Why would you want golf carts driving on the sidewalk? This is the most idiotic idea ever. Sidewalks are intended to be used for pedestrian traffic, not golf carts. Golf carts should be licensed and used on the designated roads.

By: JK — July 4
Why isn’t the Sheriff’s Office enforcing the law against golf carts on the sidewalks and roads? Is this the same “hands-off” approach the sheriff has taken to illegal immigrants?

By: redhead — July 5
Why are you even discussing golf carts on Scenic Hwy. 98 ? They have been running up and down the street in the Crystal Beach area day and night for two years now, as well as these little three-wheel plastic carts. I thought they were legal on the streets/highway of Destin.

Affordable housing in Destin — By: PayUrOwnWay — June 25
My house in the “ghetto” of Destin has lost at least 1/3 of its value since 2005. That should make it more affordable than any giveaway, socialist, unintended consequence-laden effort a government could make to make a few of its illogical constituents feel warm and fuzzy.
