LETTER: Ron Hart deserves a Gold Medal for arrogance

Mr. Hart's recent article on the Winter Olympics warrants comment.

From the outset let me state that I am a Canadian wintering in Florida, and my opinions may not be entirely unbiased. However, the display of athleticism by all participants was outstanding.

Mr. Hart rendered his negative opinions in the early days of the competitions before having much of an opportunity to see many events. If he had waited he might have witnessed his fellow countrymen earn an astonishing 37 medals and learned something about winter sport in the process.   

Most distressing was Mr. Hart's reference to "unimportant Nordic countries." At a time when the United States needs friends and allies in the war on terrorism to dismiss other democracies as "unimportant" is both arrogant and ignorant.

The Netherlands, Estonia and Denmark all have troops serving in Afghanistan.
