LETTER: ‘Welcome aboard' to the Crispy Warriors
Last Thursday morning at the Another Broken Egg Restaurant in Destin, 14 local veterans met to solve the world’s problems.
One of the oldest members of this group that we call the Crispy Warriors is also the most famous.
Harry Johnson, a 90-year-old old former Marine and one of only three remaining members of the famous Black Sheep Squadron from World War II, was lamenting about his recent maladies.
He can't walk very well anymore and his eyesight is going. He wasn't happy about this and we all heard it and knew he meant it.
To the right of him at breakfast was another member of our group, Sam MacNulty, also a former Marine. Sam was having trouble ordering his breakfast and kept saying he wanted some “red stuff.” No matter how hard he tried he couldn't think of the word ketchup. While this was going on, Harry turned to him, extended a hand shake, and said, "Welcome Aboard!"
