LETTER: Former Republicans, please reconsider

Toward the end of President Bush's term, I was so disgusted with the Republican Party that I changed my registration to independent, as a lot of conservatives did.  However, when the 2008 primaries came along, I had to face the unintended consequences.

Because so many of us conservatives had abandoned the Republican Party, we ended up with the most liberal candidate in the party up for election against Obama. At election time, I had to hold my nose and cast a vote against Obama.

There were a number of conservative candidates running in the primaries, but since Florida is a closed primary state, we never got to vote for them.

I have subsequently gone back to the Republican Party, even though I will not support the party financially or otherwise.  I just want to be able to vote for conservative candidates.  What about you?
