Here is what some people are saying online about stories in the Destin Log.

Supreme Court takes up local beach restoration case — By: local
No action would be a huge victory for those who oppose the bad sand and the unfair MSBU tax. Plus, they can wait many, many years, and maybe lifetimes since our area beaches naturally accrete sand. Those in Jetty East and Destin Pointe, who refused to take action when problems got bad nearly a decade ago, will now have to wait many years for any action. Mother Nature, bring it on.

By: bb
Exactly, no matter what Supreme man does, Mother Nature bats last. Plant poision ivy on the dunes to keep man off and the beach takes care of itself.

By: concerned citizen
I have walked areas of beach opened to the public such as Norriego Point and the areas on both sides of the Destin Bridge, and I am appalled and disgusted with how the general public throws down trash! There are beer bottles, used diapers, plastic bags and all types of plastics and cigeratte butts. Do we really want more public beaches?

By: Ed
It is a fact that private property is the best taken care of property in our country. Just look at all the rules and enforcement that are necessary in public areas. And it is still a challenge.

By: Wake Up
The U.S. Supreme Court does not agree to hear a case unless it is leaning toward overturning it. Afterwards, the city of Destin can expect to be presented with a multi-million dollar bill for the taxpayers to cover the earlier governmental taking of private beachfront property in east Destin. The proposed western Destin project is headed for the same fate.

By: Supreme decisions
Wake up, you’re a hoot! The Supremes, by definition, hear cases they think deserve to be heard, without pre-conceived leaning. Perhaps they do have personal inclinations, but it would be a pretty big stretch to think they were suddenly going to switch to a pro-landowner bias. Take the tin foil hat off and try to be a bit more open-minded, if not objective — or move inland.

Oil drilling in the Destin Dome? — By: ht
The threat to the local military mission is very real.

By: observed
What beautiful coast line? After the black sand in Crystal Beach and the brown dunes on Okaloosa Island and proposed beach restoration project with bad sand, you won’t be able to walk barefoot on the sand or see the bottom of the water anyway.

By: Alex
Democrats Sen. Bill Nelson, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and Republicans Jeff Miller, State Sen. Don Gaetz, ALL want to stop ANY drilling off shore, WHY? The best fishing is near the oil rigs? So it must be the money from the Obama Kool-Aid crowd! At least we live near the shore were fuel and oil can be smuggled in when it is TOTALLY banned by the Socialist!

By: Paul
Our elected officials will not cut our taxes even though the boom is over and the market is back to its 2000 level. There should be a 30 per cent cut in all county and state taxes. Since they will not cut taxes, someone must produce more. Revenues from oil production can be used to offset our taxes.

FAA to give verdict on Destin noise next month — By: shift worker
Can we do something about the noisy planes that fly over Destin? They continue to do circles around the city. Either put a muffler on them or fly South.

By: whereami
How dare they complain about American progress and prosperity. That jet noise is the sound of capitalism. If those people don’t like it, they can move.

By: madone08
Buy the houses ... then force the owners to move to Val-P!

By: drake1
Yes they’d like cheese with their whine. You got a cheaper house with a Destin zip code next to an airport. My advice, get earplugs and shut your pieholes.

By: nativeborn
Here we go again. Did you not see the airport when you bought/built your house there? That’s like moving to Destin and then complaining about all the tourists. Oh wait ... they do.

By: popeis
Do they fly F-35’s out of Destin?

By: thedeadtalkback
What? What? Speak up, I can’t hear you! You want money to do what?........

Signs of Summer: Clashes over public and private beach —  By: defender
Try kicking me off the beach and your picture goes real time to the Daily News and Destin Log and you get instant online press.

By: Blind Ref
The beach is for everyone. That is why I keep saying over and over that these homes and condos that should have never been built on the beach need to learn to share. That was the original agreement to allow them to build, and that is why we have public beach accesses.

By: Beachfront Property Owner
Blind Ref, please put on your eyeglasses and tell us what original agreement you are referring to. There was no such agreement when I paid for beachfront sold to me, and no such agreement every year since then when I’ve paid taxes for beachfront ownership. Please send me money to help pay my beachfront taxes or let me set up in your front yard out of fairness. Thanks.

Listen up, councilors. You need to educate yourselves on this. You are following your city manager into an abyss. The mayor and three of the councilors own waterfront property on the harbor, bay, and Joe’s Bayou. There is a lot of waterfront footage among the four owners. If the 20-foot rule is legal on the Gulf side, it is legal on other waters where private land meets state-owned land. Joe’s Bayou is very nice this time of year. Why not beach your boat and set up your tent and umbrellas on the 20-foot from the water’s edge. The city says you have this right and is telling the sheriff to allow this. You could do this on the harbor and bay as well.
But wait this is not right, those councilors worked hard for that waterfront property and pay exorbitant taxes. Their property rights are protected by the Constitution of the United States plus they rule the government in Destin. This will never happen. And, if these same councilors had property on the Gulf of Mexico, it would not happen there either. Think about it. They want to turn your Gulf-front land into public land to boost the tourist trade. But never theirs.

I say we all head to the public beach accesses at Silver Shells and enjoy one of the most beautiful public beaches in Destin! Don’t let one or two nimrods violate your rights. If you are hassled call the cops and the mayor!

By: Sara
Every year, just as sure as the fireworks, the Log writes an article about some innocent soul walking the beach and getting told that it is private property. I would be willing to bet that NO ONE has ever said a word to anyone who is walking along the beach! Why, oh why, do you all so like to stir this up every year? You have only made the problem worse!

Shark Saturdays at the Destin Rodeo — By: bb
I hang deer, hogs and alligators high to bleed ’em before I slice ’em. Takes some of the gamey taste out. I had a pet turkey and cow once, but I ate ’em when they got mature. I do alright around animals till I get hungry, then I feed just like the sharks does. Wonder if the shark has bad karma for killing tons of fish everyday. You know what they say, what goes around comes around.

By: God-fearing
Those of us who are “good, God fearing individuals” don’t believe in the philosophy karma.

By: Snapperman
And God gave man dominion over all beasts of the earth and seas. If your ancestors didn’t kill to eat, you wouldn’t be here to complain. I am sure if they had the means, a shark would have been on the menu. But I agree that if the sharks are not wanted by the fishermen, then they should be given to a charity to feed someone.

FCAT fight brewing? — By: FacetheMusic
Usually the simplest answer is the solution. If you have a student who gets good grades but a low FCAT score, then it means the kid is not as smart as you think he or she is.

 By: fedup
“The goal is career and college ready skills when they get out of high school,” Tibbetts said. If that is true then explain why when enrolling my child in an out-of-state school they expressed their dismay at Florida students and said more than likely my child would have to take prep classes coming out of Florida.
This test is the dumbing down of our kids and it teaches them no information that gets retained. It is teach, test, forget. They should have kept the NRT so they could have an apples to apples comparison with other states that take the NRT. Explain why Florida has one of the highest dropout rates and Okaloosa County one of the highest in Florida. Not to mention our gluttony of twice retained students. You want to cut the budget? Quit teaching the kids the same classes they already passed. Stop retaining based on FCAT.

Weigh in on nude dancing in Destin
Should the city have settled with The Oasis?
No. Under no circumstances should a strip club be allowed to open in Destin.
No. I think the city could have negotiated better terms.
Yes. I don't want nude dancing in Destin, but the city can't legally ban strip clubs.
Yes. Bring on the half-naked women!
I don't care. A strip club won't last long in Destin.
