LETTER: Take your head out of the sand and put it where it makes sense
It’s a shame that we have to be hit over the head with a crashing wave to realize the seriousness of our eroding beaches.
It is heartbreaking to see the damage to homes and condos after the Ida assault. Our beaches are our primary resource and the source of much of our economy. Something must be done for our community as a whole.
Everyone wants a nice beach and the possibility of having no beach is a frightening thought.
The dredging from East Pass is the most practical solution at this time. That sand needs to be put where there is the most erosion and protect Holiday Isle as soon as possible.
Also, in addition, is it possible to try to form a reef off our shoreline? This would be a more stable solution, and ownership wouldn’t play a part.
It seems it would slow wave action and protect our beach community.
