A MYSTERY MUTTON?

Published: Friday, July 19, 2013 at 05:21 PM.

Capt. Royce Dahnke and crew from Texas pulled in a mutton snapper on the Team Cast N Blast Wednesday.

Dahnke said they caught the mutton while bottom fishing for black snapper close to the beach. The mutton was 15 inches long and they have to be 16 to keep, so after a few photographs they released it and watched it swim away, Dahnke said.

"I have never seen or caught mutton this far up in the Panhandle," Dahnke said. "They are normally a South Florida /Bahamas fish — very cool to see in our area."

In addition to the mutton, the Texas crew pulled in eight black snapper, a sea bass and some redfish.
