It was close, but the Destin Marlins finished on top 124 to 135 over the Ruckel Rams in girls middle school golf competition earlier this week at Indian Bayou Golf and Country Club in Destin.

No. 1 seed and eighth grader Madison Tenore led the Marlins with a 25, one over par. Second for Destin was Riley Conroy at 31. Gracie Chandler scored a 33 and Chaya Scharf 35. Juliana Hock shot a 43 and Piper Lindsey 46.

“I was proud of the way the girls played,” said Destin Coach Patricia Malpass of her team that finished 7-1 on the regular season.

“We have been focusing on our short game lately in practice and it’s starting to pay off. I hope we carry this momentum into the county tournament and play well on Monday,” she added.

Last year, Destin finished in second place overall behind Ruckel of Niceville in the county tournament.

Nevertheless, Destin’s Tenore was the low medalist for the tournament shooting a one under par 35 across nine holes.

Tenore tees off at 8 a.m. on Monday at the Eglin Golf Course in Niceville in the Okaloosa County Middle School Golf Tournament, with the rest of the Lady Marlins following.
