After taking a 16-6 loss on the diamond Monday night to Niceville, the Destin All Stars are still alive in the 6-8 year old Machine Pitch Florida District 1 Tournament played in Destin at Dalton Threadgill Little League Park.

Destin will take on the winner of the Baker vs. DeFuniak game at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the double-elimination tournament.

As for Monday’s game with Niceville, hitting was the difference.

“They out hit us top to bottom,” said Destin Coach Justin Ray.

Niceville collected 19 hits while the Destin All Stars had 11.

Connecting for three hits each for Niceville were Brody Lerner, Josh Seiffert and McCabe Olin. Boston Browning, Jaxson Pelham and Joel Barns each had two hits.

Caden Job and Parker Yates each had two hits for Destin.

“This was our first game … maybe for us we had a few jitters coming out of the box,” Ray said. “We’ll see if can rebound and recoup. We’ve got it in us.”

In the game, Destin got on the board first with one run on three hits in the first inning. Caden Job doubled to left and scored.

Niceville answered in the bottom half scoring the five-run limit. Seiffert singled in a run, McCabe doubled for an RBI and Joel Barns doubled for two RBIs.

In the top of the second, Destin had their best inning scoring the five-run limit on six hits. Will Wortman singled to right and Connor Job connected for a bunt single. Cooper Wood bunted and Wortman stole home. Hank Stone singled to left and then Ethan Thomas ripped a double to left center for an RBI. Caden Job followed with a double to left for an RBI and a 6-5 lead.

The lead didn’t last as Niceville came in and pounded the ball for six hits and five runs. Levi Grunwaldt singled for two RBIs, and Lerner, Browning and Seiffert each singled for RBIs.

In the top of the third, Destin failed to get a man on base.

Niceville picked up two more in the bottom half and then put the game away in the bottom of the fourth on four runs for a 10-run ruling on the game.
