After getting knocked out of a chance to go to the Super Bowl last year by the Shalimar Wildcats, the Destin Dolphins Senior team had a little payback on Saturday with a 41-6 victory over the Wildcats in the Panhandle Youth Football Association.
“That was a big win for us,” said Destin Senior Coach Ryan Orr.
The Destin Dolphins dominated on the gridiron only giving up one touchdown.
“Our defense did a really good job,” Orr said.
Destin’s Eli Williams had a pick-six for a 15-yard run to the end zone for a touchdown and Carsten Phillips scooped up a fumble and ran it in for a 30-yard score.
On the offensive side of the ball, Destin moved the ball at will.
“Our offensive line blocked really well and our backs ran hard,” Orr said.
Williams, in addition to the pick-six, ran in two touchdowns, a 35- and a 25-yarder. He also had a catch from Maddox Fayard for a 20-yard TD reception.
Fayard also ran in a touchdown on a 45-yard scamper to the end zone.
Fayard was filling in at quarterback after Dolphin starter Harrison Orr went out early with an injury.
“Maddox Fayard came in and did a fantastic job,” Coach Orr said.
Up next for Destin is a 7:30 p.m. game Saturday at Freeport.
In other action, the Destin Dolphin Pee Wees lost 41-0 to Shalimar and the Junior Dolphins lost 19-6 to Shalimar.
The Destin Pee Wees play at 10 a.m. Saturday in Freeport and the Juniors at 1 p.m.
