Who says it’s too cold to go fishing?

Not our winter visitors from the north, known as the snowbirds.

For many, they come back year after year to fish aboard some of Destin’s finest. And on Monday it was no different as many of them got on a couple of the boats and headed out for a six-hour day of fishing.

Capt. Reid Phillips aboard the Destin Princess took 25 folks out, while Capt. Nick Price aboard the Swoop II had 27 people aboard his boat for a day of cold weather fishing.

Reports were that the seas were calm and the fish were biting as many of them brought in their limit of mingo as well as triggerfish. Monday was the last day to snag a triggerfish.

If you didn’t make the trip on Monday, there is still time to get in on the winter fishing out of Destin.

The party boats Swoop and Swoop II are running a “Snowbird Special” through the end of February. On Monday and Wednesday, the cost of a six-hour trip is $58. The boat leaves at 8 a.m. and gets back to the dock at 2 p.m.

As for the Destin Princess and Destiny, which dock at Fishing Fleet Marina, they offer a punch card during the winter months. Four trips and the fifth trip is free, but only on the six-hour trips.
