Little League registration open

Members of the Destin Little League Association will be at the Destin Community Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. to register youth for the upcoming season.

Youth will have one last chance to register at Dalton Threadgill Little League Park on Jan. 26 from 5-8 p.m. and then 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 27.

Opening day for Destin Little League is March 3.

 

Rodeo general meeting Jan. 25

The Destin Fishing Rodeo, Destin’s longest running tradition, will hold a general membership meeting at 5 p.m., Jan. 25 at AJ’s Seafood and Oyster Bar.

The Rodeo is a volunteer based non-profit organization with a three-fold purpose — promote recreational fishing within Destin, strengthen the claim of “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village," and to foster good sportsmanship and safe fishing in an organized competition for recreational fishermen.

Currently, the Rodeo is seeking members. Memberships are available for $25 for individual members and $35 for family memberships. Adult Spring Flag Football League

The city of Destin’s Flag Football League will begin March 7 at the Morgan Sports Center. A mandatory team captains’ meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the Sports Center. Team fee is $300 and must be paid before the team is placed on the schedule. The last day to register a team is March 2. Individual fees are $20 for Destin residents and $40 for non-residents. Coed Spring Softball League

The city of Destin’s Coed Softball League will begin Feb. 21. A mandatory team captains’ meeting will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 31 at city hall. Space is limited to the first 16 team that register. Team fee is $275 and must be paid before the team is placed on the schedule. The last day to register a team is Feb. 16. Individual fees are $20 for Destin residents and $40 for non-residents and must be paid before a player is eligible to play. All players must be at least 17 to participate. Men’s Recreation Softball League

A Men’s Recreation Softball League will begin on Feb. 27. A mandatory team captains’ meeting will be held on Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. at Destin City Hall. Space is limited to the first 16 teams that register. Team fee is $300 and must be paid before the team is placed on the schedule. The last day to register a team is Feb. 23. Individual fees are $20 for Destin residents and $40 for non-residents. Individual fees must be paid before a player is eligible to play. All players must be at least 17 to participate. Youth Spring Soccer

Youth Spring Soccer registration began Jan. 2 and will continue through March 9 for ages 3-15 (age as of Aug. 1, 2017). The fee is $25 for residents and $40 for non-residents. Registration can be completed in person at the Destin Community Center Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Space is limited. Early registration is recommended. Coaches and team sponsors are needed. Zumba Gold Toning

Zumba Gold Toning classes will be offered at the Destin Community Center on Mondays from 11 a.m. to noon. Zumba Gold is an effective full body workout combining light weight strength conditioning with the spicy rhythms of Zumba Gold.

Pirates and Princesses 5K/Fun Run

The 4th annual Montessori Pirates and Princesses 5K/Fun Fun is set for Feb. 3 at Fort Walton Beach Landing.

The 5K is a timed race with prizes for the two overall finishers as well as male/female age group winners.

Packet pick-up/late registration is from 3:30-6 p.m. on Feb. 1 in the front of St. Simons Episcopal Church at 28 Miracle Strip Parkway and race day at the Landing from 6:30-7:30 a.m.

The 5K begins at 8 a.m. and Fun Run at 9 a.m.

Registration is $35 for 5K and $20 for Fun Run.

Register by Jan. 17 for a guaranteed T-shirt.

All proceeds from the event will benefit local education efforts.

 

Aerobics Class

A low impact aerobics class is offered at the Destin Community Center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m.

Love Tracks 5K Fun Run/Walk

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park will be conducting Love Tracks, a 5K Fun Run/Walk Feb. 17 from 7-11 a.m.

Along the paved trail through the park, race participants will see long leaf pines, saw palmettos and a variety of other plants and animals.

Those running or walk the 5K without a dog will start at 8 a.m., those with dogs begin at 8:45 a.m.

Race entry is $5 for children, $10 for adults, and $15 if with dog.

All race participants registered by Jan. 26, 2018 will get a bag and a T-shirt. The registered dogs will get a bandanna. Post-race celebration will be from 8:30-11 a.m.

All funds raised during this event will benefit the Friends of Topsail Hill Preserve State Park and help them further their mission of supporting the park.

Advanced online registration will be available starting Dec. 21 at www.topsailparkfriends.org. Limited race day registration will be available on a first come first serve basis between 7-7:50a.m.

Pickleball play

If you’re looking to play Pickleball, the Destin Community Center offers sessions on Mondays from 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Fee is $3 for non-residents and $2 for residents. Racquets and balls are available; just bring your gym shoes.

Senior Walking Club

Come join the Destin Senior members for a walk around the Destin Community Center gym on Monday through Friday, 8-9 a.m.

All of the miles that you walk will be added to our "team map" as we travel from one region to the next. The team's miles are reported on the fourth Friday of each month at the Destin Senior Membership Potluck.

Open basketball

The Destin Community Center will host open basketball on Tuesday nights from 6-8 p.m. for ages 9-16. Fee is $2 a session for Destin residents and $3 for non-residents.

Table Tennis weekly

Table Tennis is available weekly at the Destin Community Center from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 9 a.m. until noon on Thursdays. Paddles and balls are provided.

Fee is $3 for non-residents or $2 for Destin residents.
