Sporting their new uniforms, more than 340 Destin Little Leaguers swung into action Saturday.

Thirty teams with banners in tow made their way from the track at Destin Elementary School to the Dalton Threadgill Little League Park for Opening Day ceremony of the Destin Little League Association.

Jacob Mohr sang the National Anthem and teams were introduced. Long-time coach and umpire Bill Shirah tossed out the first pitch, which was followed by exhibition games.

The Destin league this year has four major league baseball teams; five minor league baseball teams; six machine pitch baseball teams; two major league softball teams; three minor/machine pitch softball teams; five T-ball teams and five coach-pitch T-ball teams.

Word is the fish fry was sold out not long after lunch.

Also Coach Scott Kirby won the coaches Home Run Derby. Festivities wrapped up about 4 p.m.

The first games were played Monday night.

The league has a full schedule with two games scheduled Monday through Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Destin Little League Opening Day parade and ceremony was a hit with all involved.
