In their first game back from spring break, the Fort Walton Beach Vikings lost 3-0 to the Westminster Christian Warriors from Elgin, Illinois, Monday night at Daniel Bohannon Field in Fort Walton Beach.

“We didn’t come out from off spring break ready to play,” said Fort Walton Coach Brian McDaniel. “We made a couple of errors in the first inning that we pitched around.”

The Warriors scored first with one run in the third inning and then they picked up two more in the fourth.

“Two of their three runs were walks, so we gave them free passes,” McDaniel said. “Alex Holz couldn’t get any of his secondary pitches over … his breaking ball wasn’t close today.”

Holz pitched the first four innings, then Karsun Barrett pitched the fifth and sixth and then Cam Gagliano finished up in the seventh.

“Karsun and Cam came in and did a great job,” McDaniel said.

Not only did Gagliano do a “great job” at pitching, he connected for a single and a long triple to center field in the seventh inning.

Justice Lucas also had a couple of hits for the Vikings, as well as Adam Anderson with one hit.

“We hit more hard balls tonight than we have all year, but they were just right at somebody. You’ve got to tip your hat to them,” McDaniel said. “Their short stop made two backhand plays on balls that would have scored runs.

“That’s just what happens in baseball. You’ve got to take advantage of opportunities and I think they did,” he added.

Up next for the Vikings is a 6 p.m. game Thursday at home against a team from Kentucky.
