After a close couple of innings, the Destin Marlins lost to the Walton Warriors 15-5 in the semifinals of the Okaloosa County Middle School Tournament softball tournament at Destin Middle School Monday afternoon.

“I am proud of them, we just came up short today,” said Destin Coach Brittany Cahoon. “We are a young team and we honestly had an amazing season making it back to the playoffs for a year where no one expected us.”

Destin finished up the season, 9-3-1. Two of the loses were to Ruckel Middle of Niceville, and the other to Walton. The tie was with Walton back in mid-March.

In Monday’s semifinal game, it was close the first three innings with Walton on top 4-3. But then the game went the way of the Walton Warriors.

Big hitters for the Marlins were Ashlyn Priest, who went two-for-two with an RBI; Samantha Sherer, who went two-for-three with two singles; and Allison McCraw, who went two-for-three with two singles and two stolen bases.

Walton moved on to play Ruckel for the title on Tuesday afternoon. Results were not available at press time.
