More than 65 teams from Texas to Florida invaded Morgan Sports Center Tuesday afternoon for opening ceremonies of sorts for the Global World Series Baseball Tournament.
“This is our seventh year to do this,” said tournament director Coy Campbell.
Tournament play began Wednesday morning and will wrap up Saturday evening with 32 games daily at Morgan Sports Center.
Campbell said Preston Hood Complex in Fort Walton Beach is also being utilized for the tournament.
The 8Us, 12Us and 13Us are playing in Destin, while the 9U, 10U and 11U teams are taking the field in Fort Walton Beach.
Some of the states represented are Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana, Indiana, Alabama, Oklahoma as well as Florida.
Navarre had a team in the 13Us and Niceville has an 11U team in the tournament as well.
On Tuesday, the teams were all about swapping and collecting team pins from one another.
Soon after, a parade of teams walked through a gauntlet of sorts made up of friends and family, sporting their banners.
This is the second week for the Global World Series to come through Destin. The series will make one stop in the Destin area on July 10-14.
