With the Destin Fishing Rodeo just days away, there are a couple of days to mark on your calendar to get ready for the month-long fishing event.

First up is the Meet Miss Destin event slated for this Thursday, Sept. 20. at the Henderson Resort located off Matthew Boulevard. This event starts at 6 p.m. and is open to captains, crew, anglers and volunteers. All participants are welcomed to come by for the 15th annual Destin tradition and meet Miss Destin Ellen Brown.

Next up is the Mandatory Captain and Mate’s Meeting on Sept. 25 at Legendary Marine at the foot of the Mid-Bay Bridge.

This event, sponsored by Centennial Bank, will begin with registrations at 4:30 p.m. followed by a captain’s meeting and food and beverages at 5:15 p.m. Captains can register their boats at this meeting as well as pick up their captain’s packages. This is a mandatory meeting for captains fishing in the event.

The next day to mark on the calendar is Friday, Sept. 28. AJ’s Seafood and Oyster Bar will host the 70th annual Destin Fishing Rodeo Reel Local Kick-Off Party starting at 6 p.m. with a cookout.

“This will be a great family fun event,” said Helen Donaldson, executive director of the Destin Fishing Rodeo.

Also at 6 p.m., the 10th annual Kid’s Wagon Boat Parade will roll out at AJ’s. Kids are encouraged to decorate their wagon to “whatever they dream up.”

There will be other fun activities for the kids such as face painting and arts and crafts.
