Destin 10s win in first round of District 1 tourney

The Destin 10-year-old All-Stars defeated the DeFuniak Springs All-Stars 7-0 in the opening round of the District 1 tournament at R.L. Turner Park in Panama City Saturday.

After two scoreless innings, Destin’s Blake McRae led off the top of the third inning with a single and scored on a Joe Kersanac single to give Destin a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Destin scored again when Mathew Boswell led off with a single and scored on Jonathon Chapman’s single for a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, Destin put the game away with five runs for a 7-0 advantage.  Kersanac led off the inning with a single followed by Trey Fell reaching base on a hit pitch. Mathew Boswell reached base on an error scoring Kersanac and Fell. Dawson Westberry put down a bunt single.  Chapman scored Boswell and Westberry on a single and later scored by stealing home for the final run.

Boswell who pitched five scoreless innings to pick up the victory struck out eight batters with Michael McFarlane pitching the final inning.

Playing great on defense for Destin was catcher Scott Burke who caught the entire game in the 95 degree afternoon game.
Coaches for Destin are Jimmy Fell and Hal Gilley.
