Destin girls stumble and fall to Shalimar
After a 2-0 start, the 11- to 12-year-old Destin All-Stars girls softball team went down in defeat 15-10 Shalimar in the District 1 tournament at Dalton Threadgill Little League Park in Destin.
Both teams were even on hits with each team connecting for seven. The Destin pitching staff issued 11 walks, while the Shalimar pitchers handed out 13 walks.

The difference in the game came in fielding errors. Destin committed seven while Shalimar had four.
Shelby Teeter and Tate Armstrong led the Destin team with two hits each. Connecting for one each were Hannah Mathes, Natalie Lawson and Becca Adams.
Top batter for Shalimar was Mariah McKenny with three hits and three RBIs. Chelsea Schultz hit two singles for three RBIs, while Tiffany Fought and Gina Destaven each had one single.
Destin got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the first on one hit. Lawson walked and scored on a single to right by Teeter.
In the top of the second, the Destin defense shut Shalimar down. Teeter struck out two while first baseman Hannah Mathes fielded a grounder for the other out.
Destin added a run in the bottom half on a walk to Erin Groth and a hit by Armstrong.
Shalimar evened the score in the top of the third on one hit and three walks and one hit batter. McKenney singled to center field for the two RBIs.
Destin got the advantage back in the bottom half with three runs on two hits and four walks. Teeter and Mathes connected for the two hits.
In the top of the fourth, Shalimar took the lead 9-5 with seven runs on four hits and a couple of errors.
Destin again came back to tie the game with four runs on their own. Scoring were Teeter, Tory Strand, Groth and Breezer Nichols.
The fifth was all Shalimar. The visiting team scored six runs for a 15-9 go ahead on two hits, four walks and a couple of errors.
Destin failed to answer in the bottom half.
In the bottom of the sixth, Destin pushed one last run across the plate. Mathes reached on an error and scored on a single to left by Armstrong.
Destin was scheduled to play Niceville Thursday evening, results were not available at press time.
