Destin boys win, girls fall
The Destin boys slipped by the Meigs Wildcats 4-3, while the Destin girls were shutout 7-0 in middle school tennis action at Sandpiper Cove Thursday afternoon.
Destin’s Behrens Watkins, the No. 3 player, won 6-1. Number four player, Pace McDonald won his match 6-1, and Banks Sumrall, No. 5, won 6-0.
The Marlins No. 1 seed, Cole Rowan, lost 6-2; and the No. 2 player, Jesse Middleton, fell by a score of 6-0.
In doubles play, Rowan and Watkins teamed up for a 6-2 win. McDonald and Sumrall lost their round 6-4.
In girls action, the Marlins went down but not without a fight. Many of the girls had a lot of deuce and add-in and add-out situations.
Destin’s Stephanie Pridgen lost 6-1. Olivia Rockwell, Lindsay Davis and Natasha Locht lost 6-0. Jessie Larabee went down by a score of 6-3.
In doubles play, Pridgen and Rockwell lost 6-2, while Shelby Reynolds and Madison Grigg lost 6-0.
•Earlier in the week, both the Destin boys and girls won on the courts against Lewis Middle School of Valparaiso.
The Destin girls won 6-1, while the boys made a clean sweep, 7-0.
Pridgen, playing in the No. 1 spot, won 6-2. Rockwell, No. 2 player, won 6-1.
Davis won her match 6-5 and Larabee won 6-2. Locht blanked her opponent 6-0.
In doubles, Pridgen and Rockwell won 6-0. Reynolds and Grigg lost 6-0.
In boys action, Rowan and Gaddis both won 6-0. Sumrall won 6-1.
Middleton and Watkins won their doubles match 6-1.
The Destin girls are now 5-4 on the season while the boys are 8-1.
