Destin 9-10s crush Crestview
The Destin 9-10 All-Stars pounded out 10 hits to post a 12-8 win Tuesday evening over Crestview in the District 1 tournament in Freeport.
Five of the 10 hits were for multiple bases. Jeremy Pfeiffer led the way with a triple and a double. Brock Ochsenreiter and Christian Manthey each ripped a triple, while Grant Hooten knocked a double.
The win was the second for the Destin team in tournament play. Destin was scheduled to play ....... at 6 p.m. Thursday. Results were not available at press time.
In Tuesday’s game with Crestview, Destin got off to a great start. Manthey started on the mound for the Destin All-Stars and sat the first two batters down on strikeouts. Shortstop Brock Ochsenreiter fielded a grounder to take care of the next batter.
In the bottom half, Destin didn’t waste any time getting on the board. The All-Stars scored six runs on four hits. Tyler Cohen reached on an error and Brandon Edelman singled. The next batter popped up for an out before Manthey walked to load the bases. Up next, Ochsenreiter ripped a triple down the first baseline to clear the bases. Matson Goodman singled up the middle, Ochsenreiter scored on a passed ball, then Pfeiffer blasted a triple down the third base line for an RBI. Chris Wise walked and Jacob Rogers put down a sacrifice bunt to score Pfeiffer for a 6-0 lead.
In the top of the second, Crestview got four runs back on a hit, a couple of walks and an error.
However, Destin came right back with five runs in the bottom half. Cohen led with a single and scored a double down the line by Hooten. Manthey smacked a triple that hit at the bottom of the center field fence to score Hooten. Ochsenreiter reached on an error and Manthey scored. Goodman walked, then Pfeiffer clubbed a double to left field for two RBIs and a 11-4 go ahead.
Crestview picked up one run in the top of the third on one hit from Joshua Springle and an error. Destin got out of the inning with Manthey ringing up a strike out, a catch by Austin Atwell in left field and a grounder fielded by Manthey.
With a pitching change by Crestview in the bottom of the third, Destin went down in four pitches for no runs scored.
Crestview, however, picked up two more runs in the top of the fourth.
In the bottom half, Destin scored its last run. With one out, Ochsenreiter reached on an error and later scored. Goodman had the lone hit for Destin in the fourth and the All-Stars led 12-7.
In the fifth, Destin shut Crestview down with a Hooten fielding a ground at shortstop, and Ochsenreiter and Wise making catches.
In the sixth, Crestview plated one last run on two hits for a 12-8 game.
For the game, Cohen, Goodman and Pfeiffer each had two hits.
Sharing pitching duties were Manthey, Goodman and Ochsenreiter. Manthey faced 18 batters, struck out four, walked four, hit two batters and gave up two hits. Goodman threw to 10 batters, gave up one hit, walked two and struck out one. Ochsenreiter finished up with four batters and two hits.
