Little League Lines
Here’s a look at some of the action in the Destin Little League Association at Dalton Threadgill Little League Park.
MAY 2
Major baseball
•L-3 Communications Braves 11, Paramount IRS Rangers 4
The L-3 Communications Braves put up nine runs in the first three innings to outlast the Paramount Insurance Repair Service Rangers 11-4. Coby Smith went 3-for-3 hitting a double, triple and a home run, and Cody Haeusler went 4-for-4 at the plate to spark the Braves offensive outburst, with Reece Trainor and Grey Carter also getting two base hits each for the Braves.
Tiger Scheyd belted a home run with two runners on base in the first inning for the Rangers. Caleb Castle, Chandler Ankerson and Tanner Wimberly each had a base hit for the Rangers.
Highlights defensively were turned in by Brave catcher Reece Trainor who threw out Ranger’s Tiger Scheyd trying to steal third on a great catch and tag by Brave third baseman Corey Andre.
Ranger first baseman Scheyd then returned the favor later in the game by tagging out Brave’s Trainor at first after Trainor had singled to right field.
Pitching for the Braves were Casey Ponder and Coby Smith.
Ranger pitchers were Beau Sheidy and Adam Miller.
MAY 5
Machine pitch
•Pirates 16, Yankees 4
The Pirates moved into first place in the machine pitch division Monday night with a win over the Yankees.
The Pirates offensive dominated the Yankees. Dillon Moore went 3-for-3 with extra bases to lead the attack. All 12 of the Pirates hit well with outfield shots from Gabe Hristvosky, Colt Buckingham and Dawson Fletcher.
JD Porter hit a two-run triple for the Yankees.
The Pirate defense was outstanding with several plays from Moore at pitcher and from Fletcher with several outs to first to stop any Yankee rallies.
MAY 7
Major baseball
•Pirates 18, Mets 9
The Pirates offense fired on all cylinders to defeat the Mets Wednesday night.
Both teams entered the game with identical records tied at 8-3-1 for second place having tied in their first meeting.
The Mets struck first with three runs in the first with solid hitting from Noah Bailey, Sam Stennett and Joe Shirah, but the Pirates answered with three of their own with hits from James Hicken, Dawson Fletcher, George McCann and Colt Buckingham.
After a three out second inning, the game was all Pirates. Nine Pirates went 3-for-3 including Fletcher and McCann as well as Will Haught, Tyler Wooten, Christian Ford and Dillon Moore.
The Pirates led 18-6 going into the sixth but the Mets were held to only three to end the game.
Tyler Wooten was named MVP for his hitting and base running as well as hustle in the field. Dillon Moore was solid at pitcher, recording three outs at first and Fletcher added several more from shortstop.
MAY 8
Minor baseball
•Royals 10, White Sox 3
Richard Perez, Tyler Cohen and Michael McFarlane combined their efforts to pitch the Royals’ first no-hitter of the season. They were supported by several double plays and great fielding by Chris Wise and Ryan Wagner.
Big hitters for the Royals were Alex Baker, Dawson Westberry and Ryan Wagner.
Scoring runs for the White Sox were Scott Burk, Stetson Miller and Tucker Wimberly.
