Little League Lines
Here’s a look at some of the action in the Destin Little League Association at Dalton Threadgill Little League Park.
MAY 10
Machine pitch
•Trustmark Bank Mets 10, Romair Construction Giants 7
Joseph Shirah had a big hit in the fifth inning for the Mets to score two runs and later scored on a hit from Noah Bailey. Shirah also had four good fielding plays.
Big hitters for the Giants were Ryan Romair and Jacob Edelman.
MAY 9
Major softball
•Rhino Shield Heat 11, Union State Bank Riptide 8
Alex Goeble pitched a little more than three innings, and added a base hit and two runs for Riptide. Haylie Starr, Carlee Fisher and Morgan Taylor all contributed runs and strong defense.
Britnee Nichols pitched a tough first inning before Aubrey Wampler came in as relief and Kerri Andre closed out the game with three strong innings to shut down the Riptide defense. Abigail Conn, Cheyenne Pope and Victoria Welch scored runs for the Heat.
MAY 8
Major baseball
•State Farm Orioles 11, Newman Daily Red Socks 6
Michael Fell went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs for the Orioles. Cody Kilpatrick pitched 2 and 2/3 innings and struck out five to get the win. Others manning the mound were Drake Elder, Matt Wise and Fell.
For the Red Sox, Nick Boswell hit a first inning home run along with Chase Outzen.
Minor baseball
•Xator Corp. Angels 6, Destin Plastic Surgery Rockies 5
The Angels’ Andrew Linder drove in the winning run with a clutch single in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 6-5 over the Rockies. Camron Phillips led the Angels with two hits on the day. Jeremy Pfeiffer and Trey Fell also had hits.
Mattson Goodson and Holden Zielinski had hits for the Rockies.
Winning pitchers were Pfeiffer and Brock Ochsenreiter.
Pitching for the Rockies were Brandon Edelman, John Hess and Francis Retamoza.
Major softball
•Matthew Hawkins Thunder 19, Rhino Shield Heat 4
For Thunder, Haley Prescott had two doubles and a single, and Natalie Lawson finished with three singles. Makayla Lawson, Angela Roy, Cheyenne Matthews, Madison Prescott and Makayla Payne played well on defense.
For the Heat, Lexi Hayes had three singles and Breanna Nichols connected for a triple and two RBIs. Abigail Conn played well at shortstop while contributing two runs. Cassidy Redmond turned in a strong first inning on the mound for the Heat.
MAY 6
Minor baseball
•Destin Plastic Surgery Rockies 10, White Sox 9
Pitching for the Rockies were Matson Goodman, Carter Lurk and Frances Retamozo.
Jacob Rogers and Scott Burke threw for the White Sox.
Brandon Edelman was 3-for-3 for the Rockies with two runs scored, and Joe Kersenac knocked in the game winning run.
