South Walton Seahawks take sting out of Hornets
They got the job done, but.
The South Walton Seahawks chalked up another victory Monday afternoon with a 10-2 win over the visiting Cottondale Hornets, but Coach Kevin Cipriani would have liked more assertiveness from his team.
“Defensively we did our job,” Cipriani said. “And we ran the bases well. But offensively we weren’t aggressive enough.”

The Seahawks came out and scored eight runs in the first two innings, then didn’t score again until the fifth.
“I want us to be aggressive the first through the seventh inning. We need to play our game.”
Nevertheless, the victory moved the Seahawks to 7-2 on the season.
Destin’s Justin Moore led the Seahawk bats with two hits and two RBIs and Alex Astin smacked a double good for two RBIs.
Jonathan Duncan manned the mound for the Seahawks.
“Duncan did a good job for us,” Cipriani said.
Duncan, of Destin, faced 23 batters, struck out six, walked two and gave up four hits in six innings. Jansen Infinger threw the last inning, striking out all three batters.
In the first innings, the Seahawks sat the Hornets down on two pop flies and a groundout, and then came in and batted through the lineup. Moore singled for an RBI and Astin connected for a double and two RBI. Scoring for the Seahawks were Dylan Smith, Infinger, Moore and Astin.
South Walton picked up four more runs in the second. With one out, Smith doubled to left field and scored on a single to right from Moore. Astin was hit by a pitch and Rex Rutledge followed with a single to left field for two RBIs. Up next, Duncan hit a hopper down the third baseline to score Rutledge for an 8-0 game.
In the top of the fourth, South Walton gave up two runs on two hits. Drew Bellamy and Mike Hill each connected for a single.
The Seahawks got the two runs back in the bottom of the fifth on some crafty base running. Duncan walked and stole around to third and scored on a passed ball. Johnny Harrison walked, went to second on a passed ball, stole third and scored on a fielding error for a 10-2 game.
South Walton held the Hornets in check the last two innings with four strikeouts, a pop fly and a groundout to second baseman Billy Davis.
Up next for the Seahawks is a 6 p.m. game Thursday at Ponce de Leon.
